The people who use the online dating services seem to think so.  While there are in fact drawbacks to online dating, which will be talked about in the next post, there are many benefits to online dating as well.  Not only can it open new doors and possibilities for people who previously had bad luck, it can also boost a person’s confidence when they get to meet so many different people who are interested in them.  While there are only a few benefits listed here, this is not an exhaustive list.  There are always more people thinking of new reasons (translation, benefits) to continue using these services and date online.

A Few Benefits of the Online Dating Scene

As more and more people use online dating services, they are starting to realize how cost effective it can be.  For example, when a person goes on a date outside of the home, the person paying for the date will usually wind up paying a few hundreds of dollars just to show the other person a good time.  This just doesn’t happen when it comes to online dating.  At least at first it doesn’t.  The cost of online dating is pennies as compared to regular dating.  

For example, many reputable sites out there offer free sign up to women and place the burden of payment on the men.  Some sites require everyone to pay a small monthly fee.  Most of these sites that request a monthly fee also will have a plan with reduced yearly payments in exchange for payment upfront.  Then there is the cost of the internet service.  This can range anywhere form $5-$50 a month.  It sure beats having to pay for an expensive dinner, new makeup and a dress or suit.

One must also consider how fast online dating can be as compared to regular dating.  For example, when dating online, a person fills out a profile, adds a photo of themselves and, Presto!  Instantaneous access to that person.  If there is anything faster, then I want you to tell me about it.  When a person is dating regularly, it can take weeks, months and, in some cases, even years to find someone they might think is worthy enough to go on a first date with, let alone many.  First, you would need a place to find someone at and, given that lack of good choices these days; it can be a difficult and trying task at best.  Then they have to think about the possibility of that person not working out.  The process needs to start all over again.  This is just not so when it comes to dating online.  With the millions of people to choose from and being able to see what they are all about before you need to contact them, the ones that are unacceptable can be weeded out even before the first date begins.

And The Number One Benefit of Online Dating Is…

In my opinion, the best reason to get into online dating is the convenience and ease in which it can be done.  Think about it.  When you “meet” someone online, there are no awkward silences to have to deal with, no shaking of the voice (or the hands) and, most of all, you never even need to leave your home until you have found an acceptable prospect, at least not for the first few months, anyway.  
All a person has to do is sit in front of a computer and “talk” to another person online.  That is why the chat systems were set up.  To be able to do this instead of having to go through the usual rituals of a first date can make the actual physical date itself much easier to deal with when the time finally comes.  There is no need for perfect makeup or perfect hair (unless you have chosen to use a web cam) and, most of all, no rushing out the door hoping that you aren’t going to be late and make a bad impression on your date.  This can take the pressure off even the biggest worrywart.
